Father's Day

I hope everyone had a fantastic Father's Day! Though I didn't spend it with my own dad, I know he was happy:) They finally had a weekend free to themselves and he was looking forward to taking down some dead trees on their property. It's what every Dad wants to do on his special day!! Love him so much and am proud to be like him in many ways:) (jury is out yet if I'll want to take trees down on Mother's Day in the future, stay tuned). Ron spent the day on their boat, so I know he was having a good time too!

I love planning fun things for special days. I start thinking of things well-ahead of time, get excited, sometimes purchase things in advance. And, that's usually when the wheels come off. I have great intention and lose points for execution. But this time we did good! I had a couple ideas for Father's Day this year, if you know my husband, there isn't much out there that he wouldn't like to purchase, enjoy, do, etc. Pretty easy. I ended up sharing that I would like to go the Cities for a surprise for him and wanted to feel out if that was too crazy an idea, duh. Dave never says no to anything. Yes! let's go! Then I realized we could go to a Twins game and we were both SUPER excited. We decided to punt and do Hotels Tonight for the one night stay  - a little scary with two kiddos, but I'm too cheap to pass it up:) I agonized over Twins tickets for a day or two, having only been there once, and not wanting to pay a fortune. We needed three tickets and so I opted for a good view of the field and cheap.

We ended up having some friends over Friday afternoon/evening and grilled steaks and veggies, played on the beach and playset, it was a blast. Except the mosquitoes. Uff da. I'm still recovering, but it is hard not to go outside now that it is nice finally! We sprayed, had citronella pots, clip ons....I sure hope they get better soon. Good food and friends, it was a perfect way to start the weekend!

We had a lazy morning on Saturday and didn't want to rush and I think we did alright for not packing a thing the night before (but why do I do that to myself?) Collin slept the whole way (3 hours) which is longer than he normally sleeps, thank you son! We booked a room at the Minneapolis Marriott West and headed straight to the MOA - I wanted Dave to get a Royal Shave at The Art of Shaving, a place he drooled over last time we were there. Dave magically parked us right by said store (amazing what he can do if he is excited about it...) and we walked in Ergo and stroller and all and spoke to a man with a mustache like I've never seen in person....like this. He said the lady who does the barber spa was off today. Are you kidding me? It's Father's Day weekend. The guy also said, "You didn't call?" Well, okay. I didn't. We had Saturday and Sunday and I figured we could get there when they had an opening and Dave told me we didn't need to (why did I listen?). I felt horrible. We eased the pain by purchasing a travel kit he had wanted. He was awesome and didn't act disappointed at all. We walked around the mall, rode two rides at Nickelodeon Universe and looked for clothes for the kids:)

The kiddos did great and I only had minor anxiety with all the people (not really a fan of going there on a Saturday:) I made Dave pick a place to eat and he chose Tony Roma's (had a coupon - way to go honey!) It was perfect and once I got Collin to sleep, we gave a phone to Kate so we could have a quiet dinner. It was super yummy and we were ready to get to the hotel afterward. It was our first time using Hotels Tonight, but we loved it! It was a very nice hotel, and the nice lady at the front desk upgraded us a suite! Hooray! The room was so huge and we had more than enough room for everything. I really wanted to see Kate swim, but it was late and hit the sack. I didn't sleep well though the kids and Dave did. We slept in the next day (at the expense of swimming - darn) and put on our jerseys for the game. We wanted to get the promotion of the day, a TC grilling spatula, so we wanted to be early. Oh yeah, and because we have two small children.

It took us about four seconds to get to the stadium and we drove right into Ramp B and parked right next to the plaza. Amazing. No crowds, happy kids, easy access. This is almost going too well. We got in the necessary potty breaks, I took a hundred pictures of Kate in her Mauer jersey (too cute!) we got Collin in the Bjorn...we need cash, food and to get out of the sun. It was a gorgeous day, but I am super paranoid about the kids getting sunburned. We walked to Huberts and took care of everything we needed and made it back to get the spatula (score!) and now had a long awkward, sharp object to add to our pile of stuff:)

Now to our seats. Ummm...they were up high. Really high. Second row from the top. Bonus- we were in the shade and there was a breeze! Bummer - I am not even slightly afraid of heights, but there should be another category...scared of heights when wearing your baby, carrying a diaper bag, grilling spatula, purse, and hanging onto a three-year old. We didn't even have food or drinks yet. Okay - we can do this. We were super early, Kate kept asking when the baseball game would start and where were the players? but thank goodness. We managed it pretty well, had our ballpark food and drink (only one spilled beer on the guy next to me) they really behaved so well, considering!

Highlights - Kate danced anytime they played music (totally gets that from me) LOVED clapping along to everything, sat still when eating a strawberry ice thing, had NO accidents and cheered for some of the players (Justin and Dozier). Both kids got certificates for attending their first game (actually is Kate's second game, but oh well) and Collin slept and hung out happy most of the time!

Lowlights (?:) - We went up and down the steep steps a bunch of times for potty breaks, blowouts (on Daddy! Happy Father's Day from Collin:) food/drink, etc. Kate missed her nap (1:10 first pitch) and the Twins lost. Boo.

We headed straight home though I would have loved to do more in the Cities. Again, magically the kids slept almost the whole way - a gift! It was a fantastic weekend for Dave, but really for all of us. Like I said, we are pretty busy for the next month, so hopefully this sets the tone for the summer!

Dave is a great dad - he was happy to change many diapers, rock to sleep, wear Collin in multiple different carriers...and that was just Sunday! I think one of the most amazing things is watching your spouse with your children. When you marry them, you hope and expect them to love the kid thing, but it is just a blessing to watch day in and day out. I love you, honey:)

Babies change every day, so I'll keep updating you on Collin. His favorite things to do at press time....screech at his sister (who loves to screech back at him), big smiles during diaper changes, kick his heel into the dirty diaper and pull blankets over his face (not fun for Mommy).

Til next time!
