Kate's Dance Recital

We've hit a milestone for the year - dance is over until school starts next fall! It is very, very hard to believe that this was her third big dance recital - what?! She does so well, this year we have noticed that she is doing the little things that make her performance even better. Always pointing her toe, elongating her arms and doing each position/move (what do you call it?) completely and she's got the beat!
Her hair for dress rehearsal Friday night. It didn't stay in:(
Her hair for the recital, it did stay in!
Her class is still comedy on stage:) Someone is going the wrong direction, someone gets distracted by....anything. But there were a couple classes younger than her this year and I have to say that little Stella in the other class stole the show, flailing about on the stage - it is so worth it to sit in the auditorium that long to see the little ones up there!

Her dance studio is in a little strip mall in Mauston (next to our Mexican place. No we didn't choose it based on that reason. Just a happy coincidence:) but they perform their end of the year recital in the big auditorium at the high school. Mom and Dad came up to see the performance again this year which is fun for Kate to have more people there and obviously helpful to Dave and I with managing the boys. Her songs this year were "This Land is You Land" (ballet) and "Kids in America" (tap).

The boys did surprisingly well! Ayden just sat quietly on a lap during the whole show, we didn't take him out once! I did nurse him twice while sitting there, though:) Collin did way better than I expected. He sat (and had some snacks) and Dave did take him out to the lobby towards the end a few times.
Flowers for sister
I went out and got Kate from backstage afterward and she was definitely wanting flowers like everyone was carrying around. Good thing Daddy picked up some flowers that morning! She was pretty happy with her roses.
Great job, Kate!
So proud of her
So fun to have Gma & Gpa there

After the recital we headed out to celebrate and ate at Portofino on the lake. It. Was. Perfect. An absolutely beautiful night, we sat outside and watched the boats on the water. The kids did okay....we did resort to a phone for them at the end and they ended the evening playing in the rocks/grass. But we all had wine and good food, a great Saturday evening. I wish we had taken a picture!

While sitting at Kate's recital, we got a text that we had a second showing on Sunday morning! I did do some picking up that night but by the time we got everyone to bed, we were pretty tired ourselves. We ended up sitting and watching Netflix (West Wing) until too late:)

The next morning, we didn't have to rush too much. But we eventually sent the kids outside with Gma & Gpa and Dave and I got the house pulled together. We decided to just take a walk around. Mom and Dad brought their new bikes (so awesome!) so we biked/walked around and looked at some of the lots for sale in the neighborhood. Both boys fell asleep. Kate is in a lovely stage of being too big for strollers or at least with the boys riding, there isn't room! And if she walks, we get the the "my legs are tired!" Ugh. But we made it! It was beautiful again and we walked around the whole time the people were supposed to be at the house.

When we returned, we grilled some brats for lunch and then the kids, Dave and Dad did some fishing and caught quite a few fish! Collin really wants to be out there fishing..."Fishing?! Pole?! Fishing?! Pole?!" Then we put the boys down for another nap while Mom, Kate and I went to the tennis courts. We all watched a bit of the Twins game...a fun day in the sun. Dave is working diligently to get the boat ready for the water. We have a new canvas on top, it has been "summerized" by the marine, he just detailed the inside and loaded everything into it...if we didn't have rain chances all this week, I'm sure we would be on the water very soon!
Tennis time with my sweetie
Ma - killing it
Kate had the best attitude and practiced for a long time out in the sun!
Kate loves to help Daddy with the boat
Collin just wants to "Drive it?! Drive it?!"
Hmm...let's see. I'd better just add some other pics we've taken lately. I need to do a little recap of what the kids are doing these days. Maybe next post.

More walks around the neighborhood lately...
Ayden in the Baby Bjorn, Collin and Kate in the double jogger.
Momma was tired after just that 1.3 mile loop!
A much warmer day, with just the little man
We made homemade bubble solution
Oh - and they are both LOVING the soccer net this spring!
Obsessed with eating his hands

Cheering Kate on at soccer
I love this pic - Ayden is wearing a jacket of MINE! It looks pretty good for being over 30 years old:)
Kate was goalie for awhile, she is running to do a kick
(Blue shirt kicking her pink ball)
Collin decided this is how he wanted to sit
He did really great this game, he cheers loud for "Tatie"!

  1. What a fun weekend! We'll have to catch some video of Kate dancing when we're back - or send my way! :) there is one thing I need to point out, granma's backhand grip is wrong. Her right hand needs to be on the bottom ;)
