Best Times

I just wanted to put down a few things as we head into the weekend, it seems about half of my day consists of moments, thoughts, Katie quotes, milestones that should be documented (at least I think so) and of course, I rarely have the time to do so. We have the cutest stinkin' kids and they are growing way too fast. So, here are the random thoughts that are still bouncing around my head at this hour...

Collin (12 weeks yesterday!) seems to be trying to hold his own in this very chatty household:) He has started really cooing up a storm and I just LOVE it. If I mirror it back to him, we can just go on forever, having our own little conversation. I can't wait to see if he competes with the rest of us...God help you all! He has also discovered his hands/fists and is oh-so excited about it! It is pretty fun to watch him figure this out and in the last day or so, he is definitely trying really hard to suck and bite on those tiny fingers. He is also happy to gnaw on our fingers too.....teething?! Really? Probably not, but I can't believe it is even a possibility, that is for older babies, right? Sigh.... (ps - he smiles a LOT but I am always being silly and if I try to hold up my phone or camera, he just stares at it and stops smiling. I'm so sad I don't have more pics of his smiley self!)

I tried a few new recipes and I am on quite a roll, I must say! The last half dozen or so have been hits and the one I'm most happy about is a healthy homemade granola bar. Super yummy and addictive, so we are now playing with the whole "well, it's healthy! but not when you eat a half of a pan of them...." thing. I am enjoying this winner streak, I definitely also have the streaks where I try new things and it all goes horribly wrong:) Just ask Dave.

Kate's imagination is off the charts. I cannot figure out how she comes up with this stuff. I wish I had the ability to capture what all she says during the day, I can never remember everything by the time I hit a computer. Let's just say she's a sponge and everything she hears/watches/"reads" goes into that brain of hers,  gets jumbled up with everything else and comes back out in very interesting ways! She keeps me on my toes:) And as some of you know, you are almost guaranteed some gems if you take her to the bathroom (Mom, Kylie:) A friend of mine calls it being a "potty hostage" as these sessions are sometimes very long and you can't seem to get out of the situation:) But at least it is entertaining!

Dave is on call today and had a heavy schedule so I prepared myself to do a full day on my own - not quite as intimidating as a month or two ago - yeah! - but still not fun. There was an Syttende Mai Ice Cream Social at a church nearby and I really wanted to go. It is a very old Norwegian church in the hills south of town and they were going to have Norwegian pastries too! As the day went on, I started thinking about just having supper "out" as well; I never take the kids (or Kate) by myself but was pretty exhausted and decided to throw in the towel on homemade supper. Luckily, Dave was able to get out earlier than expected and met us at the church. I had fun chatting with the ladies there, eating rosettes, pie, krumkakke, etc. They all loved the kids of course, a lady took Collin right away when I got there (total stranger) so I could eat. Things were going pretty well, though Collin should have slept and was fighting it with all he had.

We decided to go to fish fry at the golf course near us and when we got there we had to wait cuz it was so busy (good fish fry!) but there was a polka band playing! Kate was really into the polka and was dancing it up - so cute. We finally got seated at large table in the back (thank you smart hostess!) and I thought it would go pretty smoothly....silly me.

Kate did fine, but finished her salad and got ansy. The waitress brought Kate chocolate milk (we don't normally let her have that) and a full glass with no cover - what were we thinking?! Collin started screaming, Kate knocked over her milk, I fed Collin (twice! growth spurt?)  and then was holding him when he had his biggest blow-out of his 12 week life. Lesson learned - we have extra clothes for the kids but I really need to pack myself some extras too:) Ahh...a nice relaxing dinner out.

We got home and Dave put Kate to bed (not an easy task tonight) and then was called into the hospital. He's still there now, hopefully he isn't called in too much over the weekend, he's on call through Monday morning at 7 a.m. I should be sleeping now.....just had to put this down so we could remember. As they say, and I believe it, these are the best times of our lives!
