The kids had a dentist appointment about a week ago. Kate loves going to the dentist and used to say she wanted to be a dentist, though that talk has subsided a bit. Collin is still delightfully oblivious. I take them down to Madison to a super fun pediatric dentist and we had a lovely trip down to Madison early in the morning. Collin went first and was a super champ. He laid down and let her clean his teeth and got a very good report. His 2-year molars are not through yet but he said will be coming soon. They will probably hurt soon, bulging down before they break through. Great.
Kate had her teeth cleaned and was told her top front teeth will likely be lost soon! They wiggled just a bit and Kate can now move them back and forth:) All is well (she'll get 6-year molars soon) and it was over pretty quickly. Ayden was pretty happy in the car seat the whole time and when Collin was done, he played trucks on the foot of the chair as Katie had her checkup:)
After the appointment, they played with all the toys in the fun waiting room while I nursed Ayden and then we had a family bathroom break. Not fun. It's just not fun. Ah well, we survived (why do the toilets have to flush so loud that I have nearly all my children crying after we flush?! Fix this, someone!) Then we had a beautiful day and were in Madison...I didn't want to just turn around and go home. The hygienist suggested the zoo and so I headed that way. However, the boys both fell asleep and it was a
zoo just trying to get into the zoo! (ha:) So...I nixed that plan and we headed to get some early lunch while Ayden slept and then a park. We ate in Panera (Ayden slept the whole time - yeah!) and we saw a big Panera truck unload in the parking lot (highlight of the day for Collin probably:). We found a park and I let the kids run around and play while Ayden chilled in the stroller. Good man.

I think the drive back was uneventful. If not, I've blocked it out by now:)
Dave was on call Father's Day weekend (boo) but we had fun anyway! He was stuck at the hospital a little late on Friday. Saturday was a cloudy and seemed like it was going to rain but didn't really get that bad. Dave spent 5-6 hours outside working on projects (mowed the lawn, transplanted trees, took down our garden stuff from last year), he was able to check off a lot of things on his list! Then it got a little nice out and I decided I wasn't cooking supper :) so we went to The Dirty Turtle. Two things about this....our restaurant budget skyrockets in the summer around here (eek!) and deep down, I knew we were tempting fate by going out while he was on call. He had done so much all day without getting called in.
Sure enough, we wrangled the kids into the screened porch of the restaurant and sat next to friends of ours and Dave got called back. He made our order and paid and then left. I let Kate and Collin go play on the playground and tried to keep Ayden happy. It was a little crazy for me there and when the food came, our friends sent their kids out to bring mine back in. So nice. There is just an understanding between friends with kids and they were trying to help. The kids didn't eat much, of course, and then a lady brought them a balloon and sucker right after they got their food. Thanks. So much. I was busy with Ayden and looked up and they were both unwrapping their suckers and starting in on them. Ahhh!!! Whatever, when I am completely outnumbered and out somewhere sometimes things slide. Not because I want it, but because I really can't help it and screaming and having them meltdown doesn't help anyone.
I half ate my sandwich and then let the kids back out to the play equipment. It was a beautiful night and I thought Dave might be back soon (was called in to intubate someone in the ER) Sure enough, he texted he was on his way home and I said we were still at the Turtle. He stopped out, ate his sandwich and helped wrangle the kids home.
Sunday was beautiful, so we started the day with letting Daddy sleep in, we made some blueberry pancakes, Kate picked some flowers from outside, we got the cards we had, hung up a sign we made and then were getting ready to wake him when he was woken up by a Face Time from Gma Bobbi and Gpa Ron! He escaped being woken by the kids! That is half the fun for me:) Daddy enjoyed his pancakes and flowers, he loved his sign, the card from the kids was a golf game thing - so the kids confiscated that quickly and played with it:) After breakfast, we got ready to go to the beach! Our backyard beach - so fun. Dave went out with the big kids while Ayden slept and I putzed around the house. Kate is crazy about the beach right now. She is loving to get filthy and covered in sand. Still doesn't wander out into the water too far. Collin was more interested in the sand than the water as well. Our kids are not adventurous in the water! Very healthy fear of the water, which is good since we live so near it but I think we were hoping for a little more fun with them playing around in the H20. We'll see. Maybe it will come with time. I think when they play with others and see others doing more/going in more they will be pushed to do so. Right now, I'll enjoy the fact that they are not dare-devils:)

The kids and I worked awfully hard on this sign. I regretted the endeavor a few times:) but it turned out fine. |

I made a picnic lunch and we ate in the shade out back once Ayden woke up. That was a sweet moment and after more playing on the beach, we hosed the kids off out front and came inside to dry off/take naps. Supper was stuffed pork chops on the grill and just as Dave put them on....he got called in:) I felt so bad for him. And I felt pressure not to mess up the pork chops! The kids got a little nuts about that time, but I pulled off the chops at the right time and the kids and I ate while we watched a little Duck Dynasty to calm down:) They loved the chops and we ate two of the four and left two for Daddy. Dave did make it back but after the kids' bedtimes.
So, despite the call and frustrating cases he was called in for, I think we made it an okay Father's Day for him! He works hard for us and plays hard when he's home - we love him so much!
